Presidential Directive on UAP Records: What Happens Next

We are writing with an update on a significant development: President Trump has stated that he is directing relevant departments and agencies to begin identifying and releasing government files related to Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) and associated topics.

We welcome any serious effort to identify, inventory, and release records. A directive at this level can create urgency and signal a clear priority across government. The real test, however, is follow-through — specifically whether agencies conduct comprehensive searches, preserve what they find, and release what can be released without defaulting to over-classification or procedural delay.

Genuine disclosure is not a single announcement. It is a structured process that requires coordination across agencies, engagement with Congress, and thorough declassification review if the outcome is to be credible and durable.

What Matters Next

If this effort is pursued consistently and in good faith, it should produce:

  • A comprehensive inventory of relevant holdings

  • A clear declassification pathway

  • A steady cadence of releases with appropriate context

We are also watching closely for renewed compliance with existing statutory obligations, including public reporting requirements that are essential to rebuilding confidence in the process.

As information related to UAP and potential non-human intelligence is identified and released, the implications may extend across public policy, scientific research, historical accountability, global stability, financial markets, public trust in institutions, and our shared responsibilities as a society. That scope is precisely why the process must be methodical, transparent, and sustained.

This moment may prove consequential. But its impact will depend entirely on implementation.

The Disclosure Foundation stands ready to assist policymakers, agency officials, and whistleblowers in advancing a transparent, bipartisan process that builds confidence in the outcome.
